I am giving away art!

This is the piece I am donating to the silent auction for Friday night's Preview Party at Celebration of the Arts!

It's a sweet little piece I finished this year. I found the inspiration for the folk art icon triptych in a children's book and added the peacock feather, symbolizing immortality, and the pear which symbolizes the incarnation of Christ. I thought they were appropriate symbols since the theme for the icon is the Christ as a child. I like the idea of the family icon as a focal point for the family's daily spiritual thoughts and prayers.
Someone's going to go home with this tomorrow night! It is matted, framed and 16x20.

About Sara's Work

I paint watercolor, mixed media, and acrylic art.
My work is based on religious themes in a tradition that goes back thousands of years(i.e Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelanglo). I research symbolism, mostly Judeo-Christian, and incorporate these symbols into my paintings. Some pieces are more obviously religious in theme than others. I enjoy the way that symbols can be interpreted in many different ways depending on the viewer, but I do create my pieces with a specific theme in mind.
I like incorporating images from pop culture and juxtaposing traditional images with contemporary icons to comment on generational misunderstandings and reconciling the influences of the past with the trends of the present. The work of David Salle and Salvador Dali have influenced the structure of my work and the way I communicate in my paintings. I am also inspired by contemporary pop surrealists and street artists.
